Hi Guys Sorry about the delay but have been away and busy. I use unleaded petrol with Castrol Super Outboard which is what I have always used. The engine was run in as per Rotax schedule including a stopwatch and instructions followed to the letter/second. I think the problem was tolerances not bein...

Hi Willie This question has been raised very often but to recap some thoughts. Most people have personal preferences. Castrol TTS is very good for lubrication and clean burning. Downside is it absorbs moisture and costs a lot. Used to use it but changed a few years ago to Castrol Super Outboard. Has...

Resleeve 503 engine
Hi All Has anybody resleeved the cylinders on a 503 Rotax? I had an overhaul of my 503 where the cylinders were resleeved, new pistons and rings fitted. 8 hours later the rear piston "cold siezed". There were scuff marks on the inlet and exhaust side of the piston and the scuff marks were halfway do...

Hi Rudi Thanks for all the excellent info. I have just been through the same process except I had someone do it for me. I did not know at the time what to do and I had also been looking for a repair manual to no avail. The long and short of it was that I had two new cylinders, pistons, rings, overha...

I have just seen a fellow pilots little rubber pump come to pieces and it was not that old either. Frightening. Even though they do work well it seems you must check them very carefully. I suppose like all things in life the quality differs. Perhaps there are different types of rubber as with condom...

"It is advisable with engines running in the inverted position to use a spark plug with an extended electrode. This aids in stopping spark plug fowling. Look for a BP in its heading (NGK BP 8ES)." Niren's reply "Sorry for the delayed response, but I do eventually come around………ââ‚...

Looking up the internet for spark plug info I found the following which may be of interest "If using a spark plug with an BR in its heading, (usually used for ignition noise suppression) such as NGK BR8ES, a resistor cap should not be used. This is because of the double resistance supplied when usin...

Hi KB The easiest way to solve your problem is to get one of the rubber primers. I think Aviation Engines have them. Its a little rubber squeegee that has a one way valve (arrow on squeegee) that you give two or three squeezes and Bob's your uncle. I used to always battle if the trike had stood for ...
