Re: Another Proud Gyronaut Solo in the Western Cape

Judging by the extra tank in the back seat it was quite a LONG solo!!! ;)

Congrats Mrs. Hofmeyer, from stewardess to pilot in one go! Now Len will have to push the drinks trolley while you do the flying... Well done and fly safe.

Re: Flying Cape Town

Have to disagree... no way a gyro costs the same as a house! Unless its a very small house or a very fancy gyro! Find a house in CPT for under R1.0mil these days, not easy... Find a gyro for under R400k, how many would you like? A new double-cab bakkie costs around R450k these days and it can't even...

Flying Cape Town

I love flying in Cape Town, and here's a series of random shots to help explain why... Flying De Hoop

I spent my Christmas vacation at Cape Infanta at the mouth of the Breede river. Learjet on the other hand was at Arniston. However both of us had our gyro's at Nachtwacht (small crop spraying strip near Bredarsdorp) and managed to do a fair bit of flying as the weather gods were kind to us. Here's a...

Re: Pilot needed for Sardine Run?

I'm a gyro pilot but have not flown the Sardine Run. However I spend a month out of every year at Port St Johns to dive and film the Run. The field at PSJ on the mountain top is in good condition but as has been said there are no hangars. Last year's pilot (Jan) kept his Bantam there but hired round...

Gyrocopter on Carte Blanche

Watching Sunday's episode of Carte Blanche on my PVR and they had a story on the Gas Turbine Power Plants that are supposed to be run at peak times to meet excess demand. The program featured some aerial footage of the diesel tankers arriving at the plant and as the camera pans down a thin sliver of...

Enjoy the sunset...

Those awesome long summer evenings where the sun sets around 8pm are starting to go... soon there will be no more after work flights :( Had a really stunning sunset flip last night and took my wife up for her first flight in a gyro. There was total silence from the back seat for the entire flight (e...

Table Bay Sunset Flight

My plane is in the workshop for it's 1000hr service... no plane = no fly!!! Unless of course you are a member of the gyro community where there is always someone willing to take you along for the ride! As the cold front approached the Cape from the west yesterday the clouds and the light was just sp...

Hey Glen Really nice images! Looks like you got the Flickr thing sorted. I have to admit that I get scared just looking at them, you are a bit of an astronaut!!! What was your altitude for the pic looking at Chappies where you can see False Bay on the other side? If you look at the pic of Long Beach...

Hermanus Whale Flight...

The really great part about still being a very new pilot is that there are so many flights still on the "bucket list". Slowly I am ticking them off one by one as the weather allows. Living in Cape Town the very best weather is usually on a Monday (typical)... I had long been itching to try a flight ...
