Re: Air Magic and my Xmas Present
Ordered 2 custom headsets in Oct 2014. No answer to emails for a while, feared the worst then got my order late Dec 2014 after a long wait. Workmanship excellent. Lots of complaints from guys at my club regarding customer service. Sounds like Paul has other work and is now doing this stuff more as a...

Re: Minimum Heights over Nature Reserves/Protected Areas
Hey Bundy Good topic... but just because it's a National Park does not automatically mean a 2500ft restriction. Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) for example covers almost the entire Cape Peninsula including the Cape Point Nature Reserve. Yet the reserve itself has a 2000ft restriction (any higher...

Re: Gyro headsets
Hey Paul I would also be in the market for this system. My hearing loss is now reaching chronic status... How do I go ahead, I assume I should go to my nearest Ear Institute Branch and get the Hass plugs made then send them up to you? I already own the Condor Helmets but would need the headsets too....

Re: Using a Shipping Container for a Gyro Hangar...
Deflating the tires was an option I considered initially... First problem was that the gyro would still not fit under the container top rail which would need to be cut anyway. Second issue was that it is a real PITA to keep inflating/deflating tyres every time you want to fly.

Re: Using a Shipping Container for a Gyro Hangar...
falconp1 this was not a cheap solution... The high cube container cost R30k second hand. The alterations to the toprail and the roof cost around R10k Wire brushing and painting the outside with galvanised paint cost around R10k The vents cost R600 each and I put 8 of them in. The aluminium ramps cos...

Using a Shipping Container for a Gyro Hangar...
Thought I'd share my slightly "off the wall" solution to a hangar problem... I do my holiday flying from a rough & ready farm strip near the Breede River mouth. Originally the farm belonged to a pilot farmer with a massive passion for aviation, but he passed away. The runways are overgrown and only ...

This is not good for either party involved or the sport of gyro flying itself. Both parties are highly respected pilots and instructors. Let's keep it that way. Suggest you agree to disagree or take it offline...

Re: Gyro really the ultimate?
Both space and weight allowance seem to be a problem with current gyros. If you're two up with full fuel, there's not much room left for anything bar the toothbrush. Xenon has a bit behind the seats, but its small. I'd love to have a gyro as a means to get to some out-of-the-way camping place...

Re: Gyro really the ultimate?
Hey Whirly my brother is a recreational helicopter pilot flying only in the Cape Town area. He did his license in 2005 at Base 4 Aviation at a cost of R120k. Including training hours he has flown a total of 130hrs while renting R44's from Base 4 at just under R4k per hour wet rate. Assuming 50hrs to...

If the algae spreading is such a huge risk then why don't they ban all the water birds from flying from dam to dam and landing??? Rules is rules mentality!

ZU-CVH crash at FAFK
Ouch! Thankfully looks like no serious injuries to pilot & pax, but poor CVH is going to need some TLC... Not sure why the grass is particularly dangerous for gyro's as opposed to any other aircraft though??? From www.iol.co.za: ZU-CVH Crash.jpg Cape Town - A man aboard a gyrocopter suffered minor i...

Sheeesh! Just arrived back from a fantastic Bundu Bash trip to find everyone bashing each other on the forum!!! Come on guys! All aircraft have their inherent weaknesses and strengths. Some are more or less forgiving than others, some perform better or worse than others. What aircraft you prefer to ...
