Re: Upgrading the 912 ULS
Graham I had two. It will use a bit of oil: about 100cc every 3 hours. It is reliable, BUT compression is higher with these pistons and thus u can only use 95 oct whereas the 912 will be happy with 93 octane. This IS important as 95 is not as freesly available. I doubt if the extra 15 horses is wort...

Nou kom julle reg! It's about time someone started thinking. Rotax is just NOT worth it anymore with the R/E exchange. I've owned Rotax 912, 912S, 912Xtra and 582 as well as VW, Jab and Continental engines and I am convinced that Rotax does not rule anymore. For any Major Rotax repairs, one has to t...

Re: AVGAS/UNLEADED?
Thanks Rudi!
That's good news! Have u heard about the adding of a spot of 2- stroke oil to Unleaded 95?
Some believe that this is a good way to ensure upper cylinder lubrication when using Unleaded.
Regards!

Re: Cubby Owners
Just as a matter of interest: Cubby owners with VW engines:
*Do you fly with unleaded or Avgas?
* You opinion on the VW engine with reduction drive: Is the VW engine up to such high revs?
Will appreciate any comments.

Re: Zodiac 601/ Carl Babst Raven
Hi Gunther! I sold my Raven (ZU-BUU) to Fred Blokland at Springs. His number is 083 256 1873 if you would like his opinion. He sold it recently after using it for training more than 600 trouble free hours. Depending on the prop: At about 2800rpm she was cruising indicated 90mph with the VW engine. S...

See, I knew there were intelligent people out there. Thank you Morph, Tailspin & Mogas! An interesting option: What about the Nissan 1400 engine? What says the informed about this? Here is a guy on the East Rand with a Nissan 1400 (stock standard) powered gyro. He swears by it for reliability. Surel...

ALTERNATIVE AVIATION ENGINE
Can someone advise........... Rotax 4 stroke is designed around motorcycle engine technology. Has anyone ever tried to fly with a superbike engine? (Not the old boxer BMW engines) Firstly: they are highly reliable. Many superbikes are still around from the 80's and most of them have been ridden hard...

Re: Zodiac 601/ Carl Babst Raven
Had 2 Zodiacs. One with a Great Plains 2.2 direct drive and the other with 2.4 Eric Addison VW engine. I still think it is one of the most underrated aircraft around. For one: It will fly in weather when other aircraft are grounded. It is an easy and safe aircraft. 44" cockpit. And perhaps the most ...
