Paradise
Demon Welcome to our backyard. You will be doing more fishin than flyin this time of the year. Every paradise has its ups and downs. Here the wind blows more often than not and some days even in a Jet Ranger its frightening. But when its flyable its worth it. When down in this part of the world agai...

If you use the Karcher don't go near the radiator on a 582. I accidentally carved my intials on the radiator before I realised that the paint had come off.

Unleaded fuels
Hi Morpheus I have never used chainsaw oil so cannot comment. Most of the people around here use super outboard with good results and some use the cheapest available. One person uses TTS still but further inland and does not seem to have a problem. What would the problems be using outboard in an air...

Leaded fuel
Griffin The original plan was to have a 582 because I do a lot of low level flying in steep mountainous terrein doing game census. After the engine out I started asking around and heard many stories about the unreliability of the 582's but how bullet proof the 503's are. I have now bought a Windlass...

Oils
Used Castrol TTS synthetic because it was expensive and recommended on a 582. Had a small end bearing go at 200 hours. The fuel gauge float was badly corroded as well as the plated drain plug. Living close to the coast I have now switched to Castrol Super Outboard. Bit more carbon but a lot easier t...

Aircraft bolts
Some really interesting and informative information. Two questions I would like to know. Are the locktite nuts also aircraft grade or simply coated mild steel nuts and secondly where does one obtain these bolts? I live in the Eastern Cape and would gladly use aircraft grade bolts if I could readily ...

Aircraft grade nuts and bolts
Thanks for the informative replies. Situated away from the real world here makes learning a slow process and obtaining the right materials even slower. :D

Aircraft grade nuts and bolts
Can anyone shed any light on the difference between aircraft grade nuts and bolts and regular high tensile bolts. Often replacing locktite nuts is a hassle as once removed they should be replaced with new ones. Is it OK to use good quality lock tite nuts from an engineering supplies shop. What is th...

Decoke engines
Hi All
Does anybody have any experience on decoking engines with a spray or other liquid. I would be interested to know if it works or could cause any harm to the engine (or pilot). Any brand names would also be helpful.
