Re: The 2014 MISASA "Shootout" KittyHawk 8th Feb
A big thank you and congratulations on an extremely well-organized event. Although not a pilot myself (boo-hoo) I really, really enjoyed the day at Kitty Hawk. And weren't the little chaps in their uniforms a pleasure? Not to mention their neat campsite! I had some concern about the service of the r...

Gyro display at Swartkop airshow
What a nice surprise it was for me to see the masterful display by the gyro pilot at the Swartkop airshow yesterday 11 May. My heart skipped a few beats when I noticed the gyro lining up for take-off without prior announcement. I truly enjoyed every moment of that display and wished more people coul...

Re: Gyro Fun Rally: Kitty Hawk 18 August 2012
Very valid question Mak. - We made it to the destination without asking the way, without using GPS (!!) - We in fact managed to beat a group who used a fancy flight computer and had a GPS on board. (!!) - Did however miss a waypoint and some en-route clues  - Don't recall, but I think we made ...

Re: Gyro Fun Rally: Kitty Hawk 18 August 2012
Me, me, pick me! I am a willing navigator for hire for the event - payment will consist of having fun in the process. Pilots looking for a navigator - I could possibly organise one or two, besides myself. Do consider taking part in this event - the previous one was a really great event. PM me pleeee...

Re: The Fly Safe Safety Campaign
I had the privilege of attending the presentation at Kitty Hawk last week. This is a must-attend for every pilot, no exception. I almost want to dare say attendance should be compulsory for every renewal on all types, all ratings. My 2 cents worth.

Re: GYRO: Fun Rally 13 August Kitty Hawk
After yesterday's fun in the air I can say in all honesty - the Aussie can fly! I was his navigator and personally witnessed his flying skills and I am impressed. On final approach for runway 01 we noticed that the windsock at the northern end of the runway was pointing straight towards us, while th...

Re: GYRO: Fun Rally 13 August Kitty Hawk
Two very willing (will see about the "and able" part on the 13th) navigators available for the fun nav rally - willing to share costs (of course). Will fly with Aussies and help prove that they can actually fly. Also willing to navigate for pilots from far-away fields (knowledge of the area and loca...

Re: GYRO: Fun Rally 13 August Kitty Hawk
I am not scared (well, I am, but just ignore it). If there is a pilot out there wondering whether to do it or not, I am willing to "act" as navigator. It is a fun rally, so why not just do it? If there are guys willing to go to all the trouble of arranging such an event, why not support them by part...

Re: Kitty Hawk: Gauteng Gyro-Day 4 December
That photo of Kaplaks explains it all. At one stage on Saturday I saw him, standing around looking extremely bored (why, he was chatting to an Ausie!). And the next moment he was offering to take my kids for a flip in his Sycamore - this after my eldest said she was going to hitch-hike next to the r...

Re: Kitty Hawk: Gauteng Gyro-Day 4 December
Any joining instructions and frequencies for us poor blokes who are not (yet) airborne? I suppose we join from the east of the field at 0ft AGL and taxi to parking behind the clubhouse? I trust arrangements have been made to clear away drool around the parked airies in order to comply with Health an...

Re: Xenon and X-plane
(^^) Hi Drake - outstanding job. Some time ago I tried to make a MT03 fly in X-Plane without any success and was told that limitations in X-Plane prevents gyros from working. Well, you certainly proved otherwise. I am highly impressed. Once my proper computer (which I am also patiently awaiting) arr...

Re: Flight simulators
"Flying" online using a flight simulator has given me a great deal of prior "experience" before starting flight training. There are certainly advantages to using a flight simulator for training purposes, although one has to be careful of not picking up bad habits before undergoing training under a q...

Peblo and Pablo are taking a siesta in front of the bar. Without lifting his sombrero, Peblo says: "Hey, Pablo." No response. An hour goes by. Again Peblo says: "Hey, Pablo." Another hour goes by before Pablo responds: "Yes Peblo." The sun is now close to setting. After a half hour or so, Peblo says...
