runway for gyro

Some advice please. How well would a gyro do having to take off on a slight downhill, sloped from left to right runway with crosswind most of the time? Its 20m wide and 500m long. Trikes and many 3 axis planes have no problem with it but I'm not sure with a gyro. The gyro would need to fly on a dail...

Re: New Radical STOL aircraft to help anti-poaching

Paulpietersburg, we stay far from everything but please make the effort to come fly with me. I'll introduce you to the farm manager as well so that you can hear from the horses mouth what happened in the past as opposed to now.

Your decision is a difficult one.

Re: New Radical STOL aircraft to help anti-poaching

You can fly a trike in turbulence and high wind but I got tired of that after 700 hours. A fixed wing does indeed offer you better stability like you said Craig. These days I take out the Bathawk where I would normally put back the trike. Like I said you need to fly everyday and pilot comfort should...

Re: New Radical STOL aircraft to help anti-poaching

A while back I asked on here what A/C to choose for anti poaching, we went with the Bathawk and I must say that we are very pleased. You can not buy anything other than local is what we decided on as you will need to get spares from time to time. Remember you cant fly when you want to but when you h...

Re: What a/c would you choose?

Well I never really gave the Bathawk/ Bantam much though but just the price alone is going to be hard to beat. That together with it being local is a major plus. I also like the idea of the Subaru on the RAF, also side by side seating looks nice, don't know much about them gyros though. Will have to...

Re: What a/c would you choose?

Yes I agree local built is the way to go, just makes more sense. Should look at the Cubby too I suppose, are the VW engines ok with working that hard? I believe there is a local built gyro, the Trojan if I remember correct from the article. Does anyone know if they are in production yet? Any other l...

Re: What a/c would you choose?

I read with great interest guys thanks for the input. I did go for 2hour gyro instruction earlier this year and a few things occurred to me, first of all is the great visibility but also the long ground run, that was a bit disturbing and put me off quite a bit. Would a RAF with the plenty horses not...

Re: What a/c would you choose?

Some interesting planes there, I like the Bushbaby and Bushcat very much. If looking at 500 - 600k would a Gyro not do well either? Robbie 22 would be nice but running cost there is a scary thought not to mention the licence. I already have a PPL and lapsed MPL and would not hesitate to do a gyro li...

What a/c would you choose?

Please help us decide what the best a/c for our purpose would be. We need a a/c to do patrols on a game farm for anti poaching purposes and game/cattle counts etc. The farm in question is 6000ha but very mountainous. We need something with short field capabilities and with a very good rate of climb ...
