Re: Gyro glider action

Kiting is where the wind is strong enough to lift the whole gyro up while it is anchored to the ground. As far as actually flying the gyro untethered or as a glider it can be done provided that the C of G is correct. It will not have any distance as it will behave very much like a standard gyro unde...

Re: Gyro glider action

Hello Callie. I do have some somewhere, but will have to track them down. There are also photos of it "kiting" in the wind with one up and the instructor on the ground.

Re: Gyro glider action

Hello t-bird. Looks like you guys are enjoying yourselves. Yes we also used a gyro glider on the pans in the 90's to train prospective pilots and it really was a lot of fun.

Re: SAGPA

Hello Vertical Tango. The wording of one affiliation is maybe so and it might cause arguments, HOWEVER, when your aircraft is inspected by an AP, and something goes wrong (due to own or AP negligence), your claim on insurance with the Aero Club will NOT be entertained if you flew ie a microlight and...

Informal get together of AP's and Instructors, Agents

Yep, I know - I am putting my foot into it big time but it is time we do get together on MISASA side as well as SAGPA side to discuss common problems that do arise in our sections. They are:- 1. We all go to seminars etc and info is given to us on a "one way" street without us, the AP's or Instructo...

Re: Registration letters on Gyros

Spoke to Kevin at Aero Club yesterday about this issue. Told me to wait until it is writing, however the CAA made the suggestions, so I guess it is a formality from here on for the commissioner to sign the approval. As I have it we agreed on the 150mm on the vertical stab and 300mm on the belly. Reg...

Re: Registration letters on Gyros

Hi Leo How are you still keeping way "down under"? I understand why the Z is left off your registration. There is a hell of a lot of water between you and your next neighbour that has a different prefix to his registration. Hear we are in flying distance to any one of our neighbouring states with a ...

Re: Registration letters on Gyros

Hi Pieter I am not going to get embroiled on the responsiblity side of things. To the best of my knowledge, your registration is 240mm. This issue was brought up some years ago already and some owners changed to be within regulation. As far as I know (and I stand corrected to this), it is the owner/...

Re: Registration letters on Gyros

Hi Pieter I am not going to get embroiled on the responsiblity side of things. In the past almost 20 years, it was never an issue with the SACAA up till recently. I hear what you say, and I also know that most of this would not have happened if persons did not chase game etc with their gyros. For ev...

Re: Registration letters on Gyros

Regarding the sizes of the letters. They have been prescribed in the CATS/CARS. Regarding the ZU to be left out the answer is the CAA says no. If you can fit 300mm letters on the horizontal stab, you will need special dispensation from the SACAA as they are prepared to give this allowance for the be...

Registration letters on Gyros

Hi all, There was a recent inspection by the SACAA and they found that our registration letters to be either too small or not conforming with the regulations. The SACAA was then approached for dispensation on this issue as in certain cases there is no way we can comply. They refered me to Aero Club ...
