Microland 30 yrs ago
Found an old article in SA Aeronews from Oct 1985. It describes the opening of Microland by Danie Malan, the new owner of this new flight park. I remember he used to live in a caravan on the airfield when I used to operate out of there. For those wanting to download any old editions ('83-'86) of SA ...

Re: History of a Trike
Me thinks Leonardo de Vinci's helicopter design from 1493 looks rather like a gyro!

Re: altitude and hypoxia
Will do, normally one whizzes past there at 300kts plus, so I normally slow down to 220 kts, just to give us time to take a few photo's. Will post those soon.

Re: altitude and hypoxia
You must try FL370 where there is even less to see, unless you happen to go over Kilimanjaro like I did yesterday at FL210, 1 500ft above the crater which was quite fun.

Re: altitude and hypoxia
In a gyro I've been up to 12 500 and felt fine, but didn't stay there long. In my more younger, stupid inexperienced days of commercial flying, when flying a Piper Seneca 2 (turbocharged twin), I thought it would be clever to climb up to 17 000ft. The problem with hypoxia is you start feeling euphor...

Re: Tandem vs Side by Side; Perfect vs Ideal.
Hi Len, Let's see what Mr Boeing has to say for some wisdom... Here's an exerpt from our Boeing Flight Crew Operations Manual: Flight Crew reset of tripped fuel pump and fuel pump control circuit breakers in flight is prohibited. Reset of any other tripped circuit breaker is not recommended unless i...

Congrats Flynote. Trust you'll have many safe hours with your new gyro. Do give us your impressions on your machine, and if it lives up to your expectations.

Re: XWind Dragon
Hi Francois, thanks for sharing your experience. I'm trying to make sense of what you are trying to say. Unless you are landing, there is no crosswind limit when you are in the air, as you are moving within a parcel of air that is moving. A gyro is no more likely to "roll over" in a strong crosswind...

Re: That game of darts...
I disagree. I've learnt a couple of things here. Sometimes people post statements and treat them like fact, and if there are inaccuracies, then they must be respectively pointed out, in a polite manner. The problem is pilots seem to sometimes not like criticism as it seems to attack the Ego. The tri...

I'll second that. Do lots of reading up and fly them all. These days there is no reason not to be informed via the internet. They really are so much fun!
